Busy week, sorta. Last weekend was eventful because of the cats. And more than our typical "omg, Biscuit chirped and Baker smiled!!! lozl".
Quick and clean version: After receiving clean bills of health from the vet from Friday's appointment, Saturday morning witnessed some semi-alarming depositry by Baker. Called the vet, we picked up some liquid antibiotics, as well as some more belly-soothing wet food. In the past week, we've only been feeding small amounts of the doctor-prescribed wet food (no more of the other stuff at all - except for Biscuit, when we have to distract him to give Baker his medicine). Baker has been doing great.
Additionally, in terms of the placement of his wonderful, wonderful gifts, we tried something new/old. After researching a lot online, I found someone comment about someone else's cat's placement, and s/he said something along the lines of 'try to replicate, for the litterbox, the environment with which the kitten is preferring to go on his own'. Thinking this over, I realized Baker - even a few days into the medicine, with less pain - was still handling his biz-nasty in his "secret" hiding places, either the corner next to the litterbox, or the corner behind the toilet. The idea of additional privacy / 'dark corner' dawned on me, and I broke out the old, very first litterbox (the one with too-tall walls and an enclosure). Success! So not only has Baker been physically well in the last week, he's only once used the floor!
To recap the History of our Feline Depositries:
1) Purchased initial box, with enclosure; walls too high for tiny kittens
2) Replaced big box with smaller-walled box; walls better but box too small overall
3) Added additional shoebox lid; second area helped, but way too small for accurate placements by kittens
4) Replaced smaller box with 2 small boxes, side-by-side; better overall coverage, but middle walls a nuisance and still overall too little coverage
5) Purchased large plastic storage box; walls low enough for growing kittens, great overall coverage, but only Biscuit adapts perfectly
6) Re-introduce initial box with enclosure, in addition to large plastic storage box; only 1 floor incident in last 7 days of use
Overall, Baker seems to really be doing great, now that he's on the antibiotics. He's got much more energy - maybe too much - and his coat is fluffier and softer, like his brothers. The only real bone of contention right now is their continued love of the bathtub. Despite aluminum foil and chili powder (a temporary substitute for cayenne pepper - and they seem to really like the powder), they - or Baker, at least - are still jumping in. No gifts, but we still want them to avoid the tub. Workin' on it...
In human news, Amberino's strange bird flu seems to be gone, though she's still got some neck aches. She's been detoxing with mainly fruits and veggies, to stick it to the processed food industry. She says she feels really good because of it; if I had any worth, I'd do the same, but I'll be damned if I say goodbye to meat.
Last weekend, we picked up a Gamecube. Gamestop sells 'em for $40 used, which is awesome, because as it turns out, they're still making games for it (though not many). Someday, I'll pick up The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Madden '08, but for now, we're making due with Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (great 'toon-ish RPG fun), Mario Sunshine, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, Madden '05 (for $6, worth making sure it plays nicely on GC), and Mario Kart: Double Dash (Amber is amazingly good at this game).
We're prepping for a weekend trip to Vermont, to spend some time with a couple of close friends, and visiting their sister and her biff. If the weather holds out, it's Home-made Slip n' Slide BBQ Extravaganza Saturday (no Caturday, they have a dog). We will miss the boys - and the Gamecube - and are crossing our fingers to the point of breakage that we come back with little to no surprises, other than the upstairs construction crew getting that much closer to finishing their Epic Project of Yelling and Pounding.
