Oh.  Hi, blog.  How have you been?  You look ...well.  Look, I'm rea-  No, you go fir-  Okay, I'll start.

I'm sorry I've been neglecting you.  I know I haven't been the best writer, and I know how co-dependent you've always said you were.  And that you think you're nothing without entries.  I understand completely, and it's entirely my fault: what kind of blog with you be without updates?  Well, look, let's just move on from this and move forward.  I am truly sorry for my oversight an neglect.  I hope you have it in your database to forgive me.

What have I been up to?  Not much, really.  I missed Oscar fever this year (I got vaccinated back in November).  I've been riding my bike to work as much as the weather allows.  It's an amazing experience.  I know, it sounds lame, but it's true - you breeze through the city in open air, instead of a closed taxi.  It's faster than if you were on foot, and you don't have to deal with a lot of the crappy side dishes that come with the NYC Sidewalks Platter.  It's like riding a go-kart, but on a bike.  You're right, that's a terrible analogy.

On the other hand, your survival hinges on your ability to constantly gauge several things: automobile traffic, pedestrians, other bikers, strollers, Scientologists, weather patterns, and panthers.  I've been doing a pretty good job so far, adapting my usual reckless riding habits to a stricter environment.  I think that bike riding in NYC should be tracked the same as piloting: total performance hours logged.  And major milestones should be tattooed around your body, as permanent badges of honor.  Like when you hit "1,000 total hour biked", you get the "1,000 mark" tattoo, which would be a fiery skull with a writhing snake in it's mouth.  (Of course.)  And despite my having logged upwards of a whopping 1.2 hours so far, last week I still almost ran over Paul Giamatti.

I would have to say riding a bike in NYC - or Brooklyn, at least - gives you a different perspective on the city: that it's not a complete and total dump-hole.

Let's see, what else has been happening...  I wasted 20 minutes of my life the other night watching a part of "Deal or No Deal".  Lots of pointin' and hollerin'.  No matter what I do, I'll never get those 20 minutes back.  And I hate myself for it.

Work has picked up quite a bit.  We have some interesting projects in the pipes.  Amber- you know Amber, my girlfriend? I've mentioned her before.  Anyway, Amber has been really stressed out from work lately.  It's difficult to do anything about it, but she's a trooper and she'll get through it just fine.  We've discussed marriage on and off for a while now.  I wouldn't be surprised if we were married in a year from now, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were together and not married 20 years from now.  But before we get married, we have some details to work out...

(Wednesday, on IM):
e: think our wedding should be nothing but pixies songs
a: um... yeah... I had my heart set on a flute player

The New York Times is a great source for interesting, useful infographics.  One such infographic, from an article in the Feb. 24, 2008 edition, displays the Pittsburgh Pirates' slow decline into the annals of Major League Baseball's septic tank.  Just look at those curves arc downward!
