Movie Review - Avatar

I love movies, films, cinema – whatever. I hate when things are over-hyped. So I *really* hate it when movies are over-hyped. And what better example of an over-hyped movie in our near future than Avatar?

Based on the chatter, you'd think Cameron invented three new film genres all at once, and cured a few diseases in the process. The movie looks okay; a point I made earlier to @exitcreative was that a review that acknowledges a poor or lacking plot and instead focuses only on technical achievements does not a "great" movie make (argue this stance on your own time). And I am excited to see it in 3D. But I'm going into this with a healthy dose of moderation and reality: the story is going to be nothing new – maybe even insulting – and the visuals will be orgasmic.

And for the record, I'm only coming around now because of this crystal clear final sentence of the NY Times review, instilling hope that it's possible to see this movie for exactly what it is: "[Cameron] hasn’t changed cinema, but with blue people and pink blooms he has confirmed its wonder."
