Apple Gives Adobe The Finger With Its New iPhone SDK Agreement

Based on the OS 4 announcements yesterday, I think this SDK agreement is the final nail in the coffin for me and my iPhone. I've said this before and I was deterred by the cost of an AT&T early termination fee. But if the only way I can move my 3G iPhone to the future is to completely replace the handset, then it's basically a wash and I might as well move to the future with Android.

Closed systems stifling innovation and forced upgrades are two reasons to jump ship. Another is this iAd network. The last thing I want or need on my phone is ads, especially in the apps I've paid for. It's one thing if the NY Times' free version of their app is ad-supported - it's another when everything is (potentially) ad-supported. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking this won't be a complete and utter floodgate opened on ads, because it will be.

Lastly, I'm cited the hypocrisy of calling themselves green when their business model promotes such flagrant disposals of their products. Yes, the company has made strides in greening itself. But the simple fact is when you increase both production and disposal, and your footprint and products aren't 100% neutral, you are a net negative. And when your business model supports this behavior, your brand is as well. Maybe the media will catch on to this some day (unlikely).
